While most of us know about the types of mold and mildew that grow in showers, not as many know that toxic mold can grow on the inside of walls and under floors, threatening your home and your family. While complete mold removal is not possible because some mold spores are present in every environment, mold remediation techniques can control your mold problem and help to ensure that your home remains free of toxic levels of mold. These techniques can also help in the process of mold repair, fixing the damage that this fungus has caused and enabling the detection and repair of leaks and other sources of unwanted moisture.

Our 7 Step Process of Mold Removal & Remediation:

Step 1: Assessment of the Cause:
The assessment is typically done during the Mold Inspection process. This is where we have identified the source that caused the mold. As part of the assessment we identify the full extent of the mold growth throughout the area or building so all areas with potential contamination are addressed.

Step 2: Evaluation of Mold Species:
The particular mold species can be important. This is identified through the Mold Testing process. Understanding the mold species present helps us determine the most cost effective way of resolving the problem and ensuring it does not return. Certain species may require additional safety protocols to protect building occupants.

Step 3: Remediation Plan:
After the assessment and the evaluation are complete, a remediation plan can be developed. A full remediation plan includes addressing what caused the mold and all safety protocols. This ensures all mold contamination issues will be remediated properly and not return.

Step 4: Containment & Negative Air:
Depending on the extent of the contamination, the area is contained under negative air to prevent cross contamination of mold spores and mycotoxins to other areas of the building. During the mold removal and remediation process the mold spores will become disturbed and aerosolized. This can lead to cross contamination and create a situation much worse than the original problem if proper procedures, containment and HEPA filtration equipment are not used.

Step 5: Removal of the Mold:
After containment is in place, the mold is removed and or the mold damaged materials are removed or decontaminated. Often this includes the removal and disposal of porous materials such as drywall. Non porous and some semi porous materials are decontaminated or cleaned. Damaged or moldy materials that are removed are properly packaged and disposed to prevent cross contamination.

Step 6: Removal of Odours:
Odour problems are commonly associated with mold contamination. All odours are removed from the area during the remediation process. This may include specialized treatments to ensure odours do not return in the future

Step 7: Cleaning & Clearance Inspection:
HEPA vacuuming & Air Scrubbing Once the mold and damaged materials have been removed, the general area must be thoroughly cleaned using antimicrobial treatments on hard surfaces and HEPA vacuuming the porous surfaces to remove residual mold spores. The air must be purified to remove mold spores and mycotoxins using HEPA air scrubbing equipment. Post remediation verification is conducted to insure the environment is suitable for re-occupancy upon completion of the mold remediation process. The final clearance inspection may include a visual inspection using specialized equipment to a full range of air quality and surface testing.
